Who am I?
Hi, I’m Kaila. Thanks for coming to check out my page.
I’ve been making pottery for the last 8 years, and am completely obsessed. I make functional wares because I love the idea that you can have these objects in your life that add just a little bit of magic, or whimsy, or beauty, or human connection to an ordinary activity like making a sandwich or getting a cup of coffee.
More pottery things: I’m a Studio and Gallery Manager at the Clay Lounge in Boston, where I teach classes.
P.S. You might’ve known me at Kaila Braley Pottery - I just got married! Whoo hoo! :) But you can call me either and I’ll still answer.
Happy as a clam in mud.
About my work.
I was a kid who believed in fairies. Like, really truly believed they lived in my backyard, inside the biggest, gnarliest tree. I believed that magic was always hidden just beneath the surface - just behind the ferns in the forest, and just under the surface of the lake.
As an adult, I’ve realized that same magic is there, in the way that plants and critters find ways to survive even when the odds are stacked against them. Life finds a way to continue living.
I wanted to make objects that feel like you could’ve found them on a forest floor. I wanted the pieces to feel like the dark wet dirt after a rainy day, and the little surprising bits of color you find in fungus or wildflowers.
I hope if that bit of my imaginative heart finds a home with you, it will remind you of your childlike imagination as well.
